Daily Descriptions
Monday 4/22
N/A-Sick day
Tuesday 4/23
Today, I worked remotely and continued to work on my final health education handout for the year. When reading over the paragraphs I wrote last weekend, I decided to edit them to make them more relevant and applicable to the population at hand, as I originally wrote them at too high of a health literacy level. This took about an hour and a half editing these paragraphs. Then, I plugged them into the Canva doc and began making edits to ensure the handout is aesthetically pleasing and informative.
Wednesday 4/24
Today, I worked remotely and created an excel file with participant contact information and the ingredients they need for Friday’s cook-along demo. The meal will be a healthier spin on Fish and Chips, with a more nutritious coleslaw as the side. I continued to gather information from participants' emails and plug it into excel throughout the day so that we can go grocery shopping for ingredients tomorrow. Typically, we go on Friday, however we are hosting a dental screening all day Friday so we will be going tomorrow and disseminating ingredients tomorrow throughout the day.
Thursday 4/25
Today, I continued to plug information into the excel sheet so that gathering ingredients for the cook-along demo runs smoothly. I also corresponded with various participants via email. Then, I met Kendra at Trader Joes where we gathered a majority of the ingredients. Typically, we have to run to a few grocery stores to gather all of the ingredients, so we went to Kroger after. Then, we assembled the ingredients based on what each participant needed. Kendra and I divided and conquered, so I ended up dropping off the ingredients at the Water Treatment plant, IT department, and the HR/ Finance department. This month's cookalong had the most participants compared to the other ones throughout my internship, so the grocery shopping, implementation services, and delivery drop offs took more time than normal.
Weekly Summary
Throughout the week, my focus was split between refining the content of a final health education handout and coordinating logistics for an upcoming cook-along demonstration. Initially, on Tuesday, I concentrated on enhancing the handout's readability and relevance, recognizing the need for adjustments to suit the target audience's comprehension level. Wednesday involved further remote work as I organized participant details and ingredient requirements for Friday's cook-along using an Excel file, alongside gathering information from participant emails to prepare for grocery shopping. Despite a scheduling conflict necessitating a shift to Thursday, the shopping trip ensured timely ingredient distribution for the event. Thursday was dedicated to finalizing logistics, including updating the Excel sheet, obtaining ingredients with Kendra, and organizing them for delivery to various departments. These tasks showcased my ability to manage responsibilities and demonstrate competencies in communication, implementation, reporting, gathering resources, stakeholder involvement, and relationship building throughout my internship.
Responsibilities & Competencies
6.4.3- Develop communication aids, materials, or tools using appropriate multimedia (e.g., infographics, presentation software, brochures, and posters).
I met this competency by continuing to work on and finalizing the opioid epidemic handout on Canva.
3.1.2- Arrange for implementation services.
I met this competency by creating an excel sheet with participant contact info and the ingredients each of them need for the Cook-Along demo Friday night. Arranging this information enables the implementation aspect of the program to run more efficiently.
1.4.5- Report assessment findings
I met this competency by finalizing the December handout and quiz on opioids and sending them to Kendra for feedback.
3.1.1- Secure implementation resources.
I met this competency by gathering ingredients based on participants' needs for the cook-along demo. We secured the ingredients and resources at a few grocery stores.
7.1.3-Involve partners and stakeholders throughout the health education and promotion process in meaningful and sustainable ways.
I met this competency by dropping off individual’s ingredients for the cook-along demo at their respective departments. Also, we always engage with Trader Joe's workers in a meaningful way as the employees enjoy taking part in the cook-along program as well.
8.3.4- Build relationships with other professionals within and outside the profession.
I met this competency by continuing to engage with ACCGov employees from various departments. I sure will miss seeing some of them!
Reflection
Throughout this week, my focus was on two primary tasks: refining the content of a final health education handout and organizing logistics for an upcoming cook-along demonstration. On Tuesday, I worked remotely to enhance the readability and relevance of the handout, recognizing that certain sections were initially written at a level too advanced for the target audience. After spending about an hour and a half editing these paragraphs, I integrated them into a Canva document, ensuring a balance between aesthetic appeal and informative content.
Wednesday brought further remote work as I created an Excel file to meticulously organize participant contact details and ingredient requirements for Friday's cook-along. The session was set to feature a healthier version of Fish and Chips, accompanied by a nutritious coleslaw. Throughout the day, I diligently collected information from participant emails, updating the Excel sheet in anticipation of grocery shopping.
On Thursday, our efforts centered on finalizing the logistics for the cook-along demo. I continued updating the Excel sheet with necessary information while maintaining communication with participants via email. Later, I collaborated with Kendra to procure the majority of the ingredients from Trader Joe's, followed by a supplementary trip to Kroger for any remaining items. With ingredients in hand, Kendra and I efficiently organized them according to each participant's needs. Employing a divide-and-conquer strategy, I managed the delivery of ingredients to various departments, including the Water Treatment plant, IT department, and HR/Finance department. The increased participation in this month's cook-along demanded additional time and effort for grocery shopping, implementation services, and delivery drop-offs compared to previous sessions throughout my internship.
Reflecting on the responsibilities and competencies demonstrated during this week's tasks, I successfully met several key objectives outlined in my role. By developing communication aids using Canva and arranging implementation services through the Excel sheet organization, I ensured the smooth execution of both the health education handout and the cook-along demonstration. Additionally, I reported assessment findings by finalizing the December handout and quiz on opioids, facilitating ongoing feedback and improvement. Securing implementation resources involved gathering ingredients based on participants' needs, a task that required coordination with multiple grocery stores. Furthermore, involving partners and stakeholders throughout the process was achieved by delivering individual ingredients to respective departments and engaging with Trader Joe's employees, fostering meaningful collaboration. Finally, by continuing to build relationships with ACCGov employees from various departments, I contributed to a supportive and collaborative work environment, fostering connections that will be missed as my internship concludes.
